WORKING WITH BEREAVEMENT  -  Children and Adult

A workshop with Jan Kerr,    May 31st and June 1st

o       This two day experiential workshop offers an opportunity to explore issues which follow on from various losses including bereavement.  Participants will gain insight into how loss and/or bereavement affect individuals: time will be taken to consider the impact on children, adults and the family unit.

o       This workshop will involve a combination of theoretical input, discussion and exercises including the opportunity to share personal and professional experiences.  This training will provide a deeper awareness and understanding of what is required when working alongside those who have experienced loss.

o       When we support those who have suffered losses within their lives, we are often struck by the fragility of life itself and can be deeply affected by this work.  With this in mind, there will also be time to explore together how we take care of ourselves and manage the challenges this work can bring.

counselling stonehaven #01Jan is a qualified and accredited counsellor, accredited trainer and supervisor in private practice.  Her training and work is shaped by the values and attitudes embodied by the person-centred approach. This leads to a way of being that prizes the uniqueness of each human being and encourages individuals to discover how to live in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

Most of Jan’s counselling and supervision work is carried out within her home in Stonehaven which provides a peaceful and reflective environment.  She is also involved as a counsellor, trainer and individual/group supervisor at a cancer support centre in Aberdeen; as a supervisor for a bereaved children’s project and as a supervisor/trainer within Aberdeen City’s social work team.  She teaches on the counselling skills programme at the University of Aberdeen, offers supervision to other tutors and delivers university external CPD training.

Jan finds all aspects of her work enriching and believes that each area informs and develops the other.

Although Jan works with clients with a wide range of issues, she has found that it was her own personal experiences of loss, change and bereavement which encouraged her to specialise in supporting clients and their families through terminal illness and bereavement.  Through this work she has gained a deep appreciation of the many issues which surround ‘loss and change’ and welcomes the opportunity to share some of this learning with others.
